During the Telegraaf Formula 1 podcast, Dutch driver Christijan Albers gave his opinion on the tactics of Sergio Perez, who will race alongside Verstappen for Red Bull Racing next season. Perez's tactics are good according to Albers and ensure that he can stay with Red Bull for a long time.
The Austrian racing team has experimented with different drivers alongside Max Verstappen in recent seasons, but have opted for some experience with Perez next season. Albers sees this as a smart choice by the Austrian stable, but also sees a lot of potential in Perez. The Mexican's tactic of starting modestly and being cautious about his performance is a very strong one according to Albers.
"That is very clever, he takes a lot of pressure off himself. Politically he does it perfectly. If he is suddenly in front of Max, he is great, let's be honest. If he can keep up, I see Perez playing the same role as Valtteri Bottas."
Driving alongside Verstappen with no experience is not an option
Albers not only commented on Perez's tactics, but also talked about the chances of a driver entering F1 and what it must be like to drive next to Verstappen. He believes that Ricciardo, with all his experience, even took a beating from Verstappen and a talent therefore has no chance at all.
"You can't put another talent next to Max Verstappen because they will be crushed," he added.
