BaT Auction: Supercharged 4.6L 1968 Ford F-100 5-Speed at No Reserve

This 1968 Ford F-100 is a modified example that was started by Grant Peterson as a project for Classic Trucks beginning in September 2006 and acquired by its current owner as an unfinished project in 2013. The truck was converted from a Flareside to a Fleetside short box and refinished in gray over a custom black interior. Power is provided by a supercharged 4.6-liter Ford Modular V8 paired with an automatic transmission and a Currie 9″ rear end with a limited-slip differential. Additional alterations include an independent front end with rack and pinion steering, four-wheel disc brakes, adjustable coilovers, reupholstered Mustang seats, custom wiring harnesses, a concealed air conditioning system, and more. This modified Bumpside is offered by the seller on behalf of its current owner with build photos and documentation as well as a clean Arizona title in the owner’s name.

Originally a Flareside model, the truck was refitted with a Fleetside short box under Mr. Peterson’s ownership. Both the body and bed were first soda-blasted in the 2000s, with the process repeated before application of Ford Raptor Avalanche Gray paint in 2018. New weatherstripping, light trim, and other items were installed in 2019. The truck features a factory-style grille and front bumper as well as a custom roll pan in place of the rear bumper.

Billet Magnum 500-style 18″ wheels with custom offsets from American Racing are mounted with Toyo Proxes redline tires. Braking is handled by 13″ discs with cast calipers and a Baer master cylinder. The frame has been kicked up 2″ at the front, allowing the wheel centerline to be moved 1″ forward. The Fat Man Fabrication Mustang II-style front end features independent suspension with stainless steel A-arms as well as rack-and-pinion steering, while the live rear axle is located by a four-link setup from the same company. Adjustable coilovers are featured at all four corners.

The bed floor was raised 5″ to clear the step-notched frame, and features a varnished wood floor with stainless steel stringers and hardware.

Heated 1968 Mustang adjustable-back seats with custom upholstery and ventilation grommets flank a center console with a wireless phone charging panel as well as USB and auxiliary inputs. Other modifications include a leather-wrapped steering wheel on an ididit tilt column in addition to a concealed air conditioning system.

Speedhut instrumentation includes a 120-mph GPS speedometer, a tachometer with a shift light, and five auxiliary gauges. Just over 200 miles are shown on the digital odometer since completion. The electrical system was overhauled using a Painless wiring kit and more than $4,300 in custom connectors and hardware according to an included invoice. An OBD-II connector is mounted under the dash.

The 4.6-liter Modular V8 crate engine features three valves per cylinder as well as a Ford Racing wiring harness and control unit. Modifications include a Big Boost supercharger with an intercooler, a polished aluminum radiator with a matching shroud, a heavy-duty SPAL fan, a custom 2″ stainless steel exhaust system, and more. Custom inner fenders were fitted to allow tire clearance without sacrificing hood hinges. A custom stainless steel Rick’s fuel tank houses an Aeromotive A1000 pump. Pre- and post-filters are featured along with custom feed and return hard lines.

A Ford 4R70W automatic transmission is equipped with a 2008 Ford Mustang torque converter and sends power to the rear wheels via a Currie 9″ rear end with a 3.50:1 limited-slip differential and 31-spline halfshafts. The ladder chassis was soda-blasted, reinforced, and refinished under current ownership.
