BaT Auction: 1976 Triumph TR6

This 1976 Triumph TR6 was purchased by the seller in 2006 in British Columbia, Canada and subsequently brought back to his home in Arizona. The car is finished in brown over beige vinyl and powered by a 2.5-liter inline-six equipped with dual Stromberg carburetors and paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black soft top, a roll bar, chrome bumpers, and a JVC multi-media CD stereo. Work completed under current ownership included replacing the clutch cylinders and radiator, rebuilding the starter, and refreshing the suspension, brakes, and interior. This TR6 is now offered with parts receipts, service manuals, a tonneau cover, spare parts, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.

The car was finished from the factory in Maple (73) and was repainted during current ownership following the completion of body repairs by Tin Man Fabrication of Oak Grove, Minnesota. Red pinstripes have been added, and equipment includes a black soft top, roll bar, chrome bumpers, a front spoiler, Union Jack decals on the rear quarter panels, and chrome mirrors. The windscreen and related rubber seal and trim have been replaced according to the seller. Pitting is noted on the bumpers and tears on the soft top are pictured in the gallery. The rubber bumper overriders have been removed but are included in the sale along with a full tonneau cover that requires modification to fit around the roll bar.

Factory 15″ wheels with aluminum trim rings and TR6 center caps wear 185-series Coker Classic redline tires showing 2017 date codes. Work carried out by the seller is said to have included replacement of the following components:

  • Wheel bearings and seals
  • Sway bar bushings
  • Tie rod ends
  • Rack and pinion mounts and boots
  • Brake rotors and pads
  • Caliper pistons and seals

  • Differential mounts

The bucket seats are upholstered in Beige vinyl (74) with perforated inserts and are accompanied by matching door panels and a rear package shelf. Amenities include a wood-trimmed dashboard with a locking glovebox, a wood shift knob, a heater, Triumph-branded rubber floor mats, and a JVC multimedia CD stereo with aftermarket speakers. The seller notes the seat upholstery, door panels, carpeting, and both window regulators were replaced during his ownership.

The steering wheel was recently recovered in leather and fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 140-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer. The five-digit odometer shows 71k miles, approximately 3k of which were added by the seller since 2006.

The 2.5-liter inline-six features twin Stromberg carburetors and was factory rated at 101 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque. The starter was rebuilt and the radiator and hoses, ignition components, and accelerator shaft bushings were replaced by the seller. More recent work included an oil change, replacement air filters and ignition points, and a transmission fluid flush.

Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The differential seals and clutch cylinders were replaced under current ownership. Corrosion is noted on the underside and additional photos can be seen in the gallery.
