BaT Auction: 1971 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40

This 1971 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 is finished in light blue with a white roof over a black interior and is powered by a 3.9-liter inline-six paired with a three-speed manual gearbox and a two-speed transfer case. Equipment includes 15″ steel wheels with polished hub caps, locking front Warn hubs, side mirrors, inward-facing rear bench seats, and a rear-mounted spare tire. The truck was refurbished approximately two years ago and was acquired by the selling dealer earlier in 2020. This FJ40 is now offered by the selling dealer in Tennessee with a clean Mississippi title.

The truck was refinished in light blue with a white top approximately two years ago. Equipment includes steel bumpers, side mirrors, a single exhaust outlet, a rear access step, and replacement glass and lighting.

The 15″ steel wheels were powder-coated and feature polished center caps and McCreary tires at each corner. Manually locking Warn hubs are fitted up front, and the drum brakes were reportedly rebuilt during the refurbishment. A spare tire is mounted out back.

The cabin features a split front bench and inward-facing rear benches that have been reupholstered in black. The truck features a painted dashboard, lap belts, manual wind-up windows, and a rubber floor liner. The dash pad was reportedly replaced, and the headliner has been removed.

The three-spoke steering wheel fronts a 100-mph speedometer, as well as gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, amperage, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 1,400 miles, approximately 50 of which were added by the selling dealer. Total mileage is unknown.

The 3.9-liter F inline-six reportedly received a valve job during the refurbishment. Other work at that time is said to have included replacing the seals, gaskets, fuel lines, and fuel tank.

Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a column-shifted three-speed manual gearbox and a two-speed transfer case. The selling dealer notes that the transfer case was rebuilt during the refurbishment.
