BaT Auction: 1962 Chevrolet Corvette 4-Speed

This 1962 Chevrolet Corvette is finished in white with a matching soft top over a red vinyl interior and is powered by a 327ci V8 paired with a Muncie M20 four-speed manual transmission. Features include a matching hardtop, a Wonderbar AM radio, a driver’s side-view mirror, and chrome bumpers and trim. The car reportedly underwent a refurbishment in 2016 and was acquired by the seller in January 2019. Maintenance has since included an oil change along with the installation of a replacement air filter, shock absorbers, spark plugs, tires, and bushings. This C1 Corvette is being offered with an owner’s guide, service records from current ownership, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The fiberglass bodywork has been repainted in Ermine White and features a matching soft top and tonneau cover. A body-colored hardtop is included in the sale and has reportedly been fitted with replacement seals. Additional equipment includes a driver’s side-view mirror, a collapsible antenna, and chrome bumpers and trim. Touched-up paint chips can be seen in the gallery below, along with a paint crack and blemish on the hood.

The 15” steel wheels wear chrome covers with faux spinners and are wrapped in red-stripe BFGoodrich Silvertown radial tires that are said to have been recently replaced. A set of white-stripe bias-ply tires are included in the sale, and the seller states that the shock absorbers and suspension bushings have been replaced.

The twin bucket seats were refreshed with replacement foam pads, springs, and red vinyl upholstery, and the cabin features  a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Lap belts are fitted for both occupants, and amenities include an analog clock, a dash-mounted rear-view mirror, and a Wonderbar AM radio. A tear in the vinyl on the dash can be seen in the gallery.

A replacement smaller-diameter three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows just over 92k miles, approximately 2k of which have been added by the seller, who notes that the removed 17″ steering wheel will accompany the vehicle. Total mileage is unknown.

The 327ci V8 features a single Carter four-barrel carburetor and was factory-rated for 250 horsepower at 4,400 rpm. Recent maintenance has included an oil change along with the installation of a replacement air filter and spark plugs.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement Muncie M20 four-speed manual transmission and Positraction differential, both which have reportedly been rebuilt.
