40 years on It’s New Year’s Eve so I’ve decided to reflect on 2015′s new cars and compare them to equivalent models from 1975.
The new Fiat Tipo saloon’s 1975 equal would have been the 131 saloon. The 131 was rear wheel drive with front longitudinal engines in 1.3 litre 64hp and 1.6 litre 75hp versions. There was also a 1.8 litre 86hp version for the US market. The Tipo has front wheel drive with transverse engines ranging from 95hp 1.3 litre Diesel and 1.4 litre petrol to 1.6 litre petrol (110hp) and Diesel (120hp).
In 1975 Fiat S.p.A. comprised Fiat, Autobianchi and Lancia brands with a shareholding in Ferrari. In 2015 FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) owns Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Ferrari, Fiat, Lancia, Maserati, Jeep and Ram
